Performing in Winnipeg and across Canada since he was a teenager, Singer’s been praised in music publications such as Exclaim! writing, “Twisting languid folk-rock and bluesy alt-country into a distinct braid of sound all his own, Winnipeg’s Sam Singer makes music that floats free of time.” 

With now four Canadian tours under his belt, and Canada wide festival plays (Winterruption YEG, Real Love Summer Fest), Sam Singer is cementing himself alongside fellow Canadian independent folk artists as a staple. From winning the illustrious Schmolaris prize for 2024’s “Where the Rivers Do” to performing to a sold out hometown album release show at the West End Cultural Centre, 2024 was a fruitful year for the singer. 

Sam Singer has performed and collaborated with an array of acclaimed musicians and filmmakers. On Easter Sunday, we’ll be hiding a stack of empty crowlers throughout Cranbrook’s Community Forest. No maps. Just a few photo clues, a bit of fresh air, and a solid excuse to get outside.
Here’s how it works.
Wake up. Rally your people. Lace up the shoes or grab the bikes.
Head into the forest and start hunting.
Find a crowler, and you’ve officially won Easter.
Take a photo with your find and post it on Facebook or Instagram. Tag @encorebeer and use #encorebeer so we can see who got lucky.
Then bring it back to Encore and we’ll fill it for free (before April 27).
A few ground rules.
One crowler per person. Share the glory.
All ages can hunt, but you’ll need to be 19+ to claim the beer.
Be good to the trails. If it’s muddy, go around. Good trail karma only.
We’ll post photo clues Sunday morning to point you in the right direction. Or at least… close enough.
Some people will find them fast. Some will wander for a while. Some will just end up on a really nice walk.

Award-winning indie-folk artist Daniel James McFadyen continues to evolve with his latest single, “Landmine,” the first release from his anticipated 2025 album. Recorded with close friends in a rented cabin on British Columbia's Shuswap Lake, the song captures a raw, Americana-inspired sound that brings new depth to McFadyen's work. Known for his interactive shows, McFadyen’s tours across Canada have sold out iconic venues, including Toronto’s Great Hall and Halifax’s Marquee Ballroom, drawing fans into his vivid storytelling and charismatic performances. In 2023, McFadyen’s award-winning EP, Songs to Show Your Friends, marked a creative leap from his “stomp and holler” folk roots to more intricate, melody-driven compositions. Produced by Montreal’s Quinn Bachand, the EP delves into themes of love, loss, adventure, and home. With Landmine setting the stage, McFadyen’s music continues to explore new sounds and stories, cementing his place in Canada’s folk and indie scenes. In November 2024, McFadyen won three awards at the Music NS awards—the most awards received at the event—a testament to his continued growth and connection with listeners.

Opener - Kieran Campbell is a singer-songwriter originally from Victoria, British Columbia, who now splits his time between Montréal and Tofino, BC. His music is deeply rooted in alt-folk, drawing inspiration from legendary songwriters such as Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, and other folk traditions. His sound combines the timeless storytelling of folk with a modern, reflective sensibility. Kieran brings a raw authenticity to every song, creating an atmosphere where vulnerability and strength coexist.

8 pm Showtime! Get ready for a Rocking night with Canadian rock veterans Econoline Crush

When The Devil Drives is the latest album from Canadian rock veterans Econoline Crush, formed some 30 years ago by frontman Trevor Hurst, now the sole original member. The band’s first full-length album in over a decade, and documentary film, Flatlander, about a rocker from Brandon, Manitoba’s second career as a psychiatric nurse, will be out later this year. Produced by one-time Miniatures frontman Ian Alexander Smith (SATE, Cassie DaSilva) and mixed by the legendary Jack Joseph Puig, two of the nine songs feature David “Ziggy” Sigmund, who played guitar in Econoline Crush from 1997-2002 and rejoined in 2010. He passed away suddenly in March 2022, just as the album was getting mixed. The two songs they wrote together, the empowering industrial-strength rocker “Invincible” and soaring 90s Brit-pop style “Smashing Optimistic,” are the first two singles. Another single is the groovy rant and motivational anthem “No Quitter” and mechanical spark “Going Under,” which addresses Trevor's depression. Originally based in Vancouver, Econoline Crush formed in 1992 and signed with EMI Music Canada in ‘94, debuting that year with the EP, Purge. The ground breaking band, which fused industrial music with rock at a time when “keyboards” were typically used in pop music, followed it up with the full-length Affliction in 1996, and their ultimate breakthrough, the platinum-selling The Devil You Know.
